Ericsson and Micromuse Team to Deliver De Facto Standard
in Mobile Service Management Solution for Vodafone Subsidiary

SAN FRANCISCO – Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of ultra scalable, realtime business and service assurance software, today announced that Polkomtel S.A., the leading Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) service provider in Poland, has deployed Micromuse’s Netcool® technology as the strategic management platform for its wireless voice and data services.

“As Polkomtel continues to offer and roll-out innovative services, we need to be able to accommodate rapid increases in subscribers and have the strategic management backbone in place to support our customers’ requirements,” said Adam Grabarski, Technical Staff Manager, OSS and Data Analysis Systems, Polkomtel. “Micromuse’s Netcool solutions, delivered with professional support from Micromuse’s partner Ericsson, has enabled us to quickly integrate over eighteen different element management systems, giving our operations teams a unified view of the entire integrated network infrastructure.”

Ericsson, a Micromuse Channel resale partner, delivered the design and implementation of Polkomtel’s fault management infrastructure. Micromuse and Ericsson collaborated closely to ensure the fast implementation of the Netcool solutions and to deliver a management solution that provides Polkomtel with lower total cost of ownership and faster return on investment.

Polkomtel deployed Netcool solutions to specifically address the needs of wireless providers by allowing proactive management and performance monitoring of existing network. Additionally, the solution allows Polkomtel to quickly and easily integrate and manage new platforms as customer requirements and market competition necessitate. The complete Netcool solution includes specialized applications for systems and service monitoring to enable constant service uptime and end-to-end monitoring, helping maintain the availability and reliability of mobile communications services. Micromuse’s Netcool solution also provides the backbone for Polkomtel’s network management center, consolidating network status data from Cisco, Ericsson, Hewlett-Packard, Lucent, and Nokia equipment and applications into a single view.

“Polkomtel joins a long list of next generation wireless service providers who are leveraging the Netcool solution as the strategic backbone to consolidate complex, multi-vendor networks for service visibility and a more reliable customer service,” said Richard Lowe, Micromuse’s Senior Vice President, Sales, Technical & Business Operations, EMEA. “Throughout the world, Micromuse is the vendor of choice for wireless service providers who want the flexibility to expand services and subscriber base while maintaining network uptime, protecting revenue, and maximizing the investment in existing management tools.”
