Sony Ericsson P910i Voted Product of the Year

02.12.04

The Sony Ericsson P910i handset has been voted “Product of the Year” in the “All-In-One Palmtop Device” and “Business Telephone” categories by readers and editors of the IDG publisher in Poland.

In its 10/2004 issue, the PC World Komputer monthly announced nominations for the “Product of the Year”. The accompanying CD contained an electronic survey for readers, who had a choice of 5 devices in each category. The editors of the relevant sections decided the nominations.

The people who took part in the ranking were professionals who specialise in IT consumer products: 31 IDG journalists and editors in total.

The jury comprised three members: the editor-in-chief, deputy editor-in-chief and a selected specialist-practitioner in a given field from IDG.

PC World Komputer readers also voted for their Product of the Year 2004.

The voters were asked to decide which products (up to 5 in each category) nominated by 10 expert journalists will be ranked at number 1, 2 and 3, by giving them 3, 2 or 1 points respectively (in the electronic survey, the voters indicated the ranking, and not the score).

The total number of readers' and journalists' votes secured Sony Ericsson P910i the top position in the “Business Telephone” and “All-In-One Palmtop Device” categories.

P910i includes a digital video and still camera and a range of entertainment options. PC synchronisation of the calendar and address book can be handled over USB, infrared, Bluetooth or even remotely over the air through SyncML. The colour screen now has 262,000 colours and is well suited for picture viewing and editing.

The P910 is based on Symbian OS v7.0, the world’s most popular operating system for smartphones, and the successful UIQ user interface that is based on Symbian OS. As a result P910 offers the widest possible selection of applications on any smartphone available today. New free or trial additions include AvantGo (offline browsing), Media Viewer (direct access to news such as Financial Times) and Promyzer (real-time market quotes and stock trading). HP Mobile printing application allows messages, pictures, calendars and contacts to be printed directly to a Bluetooth-enabled HP printer. Wayfinder is a navigation tool included on the CD, which works as a turn by turn in-car navigation system when connected to a Bluetooth GPS receiver. P910 comes with the Opera browser, offering a superior Internet experience that presents the full Internet perfectly within the screen width.
