Motorola Boosts Network OSS Compatibility with Listed Product Support Program for Independent Software Vendors

Micromuse, first to join, develops tool for Motorola GSM networks

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) has launched a Listed Product Support Program for independent software vendors to help Motorola further enhance network operators’ ability to efficiently operate and manage their mobile networks. Through this program Motorola will support qualified companies as those companies ensure their Operational Systems Support (OSS) solutions remain compatible with ongoing improvements in Motorola’s network OSS solutions.

“Motorola recognizes that our customers increasingly want us to support and operate in an open multi-vendor environment,” said Tom Shirley, vice president and general manager of the OSS Division of Motorola’s Global Telecommunications Solutions Sector (GTSS). “We’ve established this Listed Product Support Program to provide independent software vendors with formal access to and support for the interfaces to our equipment so together we can build well-engineered solutions that meet our customers’ needs.”

Micromuse (NASDAQ: MUSE), a global software company, is the first to join Motorola’s Listed Product Support Program. Working together with Motorola, Micromuse has developed a Netcool®/.OMNIbus™ probe to enable the management of Motorola GSM networks through its Netcool suite of software solutions. This allows the Motorola Operations and Maintenance Center-Radio (OMC-R) to send events into the Netcool/OMNIbus solution where they will be consolidated with events from other elements of the mobile network as well as systems and applications to allow an end-to-end view of service availability.

“Motorola’s Listed Product Support Program benefits both network operators and independent software vendors,” said Darin Layman, vice president of Alliances at Micromuse. “The Program provides a process through which Micromuse and Motorola are able to systematically inform one another of upcoming releases and changes in our solutions. This helps ensure the integrity and cross functionality of our technology solutions for our joint customers today and into the future.”

Through participation in the Listed Product Support Program, Motorola conducts an initial commercial evaluation of the independent software vendor and a technical examination of its Motorola interfaces. Motorola then consults with the independent software vendor to correct any deficiencies or make other improvements in its software. In addition, the independent software vendor has access to technical experts in Motorola to help resolve problems and ensure ongoing compatibility with Motorola network equipment.
