Sony Ericsson’s P1i launched with ultimate navigation tool

Integration with Wayfinder Navigation offers complete voice guided GPS system on next generation smart phone

Missed a meeting because you got lost on route? Late for dinner with friends because you lack a sense of direction? With today’s announcement from Sony Ericsson, the manufacturer that pioneered the development of smart phones, those days can be put firmly behind you. The P1i, the next generation smart phone, launched this month comes complete with GPS navigation system Wayfinder Navigation 7 which is specially tailored for Symbian based mobile phones.

Sony Ericsson took the decision to include the application following recent research which concluded that 50 ( ) per cent of customers would like GPS as an application on their mobile phone. Together with the phones other impressive capabilities including, PDA, e-mail, web browsing and advanced multimedia applications it confirms the P1i as the most feature rich handset yet.

Launched in selected markets all handsets will include Wayfinder Navigation 7. Easy to install, users can click on the virtual Wayfinder icon on the P1i menu to download the application, connect the GPS receiver and enjoy the features and functions of Wayfinder’s navigation and search service directly on their handset.

Once downloaded, the application provides quick and easy navigation helping users to find a street, company, restaurant or landmark whether at home or abroad. The Navigator gives the user clear voice instructions, along with moving maps and icons leading to a desired destination. With regional maps provided by Tele Atlas, the optimal route is always downloaded onto the mobile phone. Users can easily extend the service after one year as well as buying extra map coverage.

Adding Navigation to the P1i highlights Sony Ericsson’s commitment to providing excellent applications and services that complement the phones existing offering and offers added value for the consumer.

Wayfinder Navigator 7
Wayfinder Navigator combines the best of GPS navigation with the convenience and functionality of a mobile phone. The user is guided from A to B with voice, graphical and turn-by-turn map directions. In addition to the navigation and positioning service, it features a wide range of features and extras, including traffic information, weather reports, information on selected local services and locations of particular interest and (patent applied for) Power Search functionality.
