JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE LEADS THE WAY WITH FOUR NOMINATIONS VOTED BY AUDIENCES FOR THE MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS MUNICH 2007

24.09.07

AVRIL LAVIGNE & MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE TO PERFORM

NEW SOUNDS OF EUROPE SEMI-FINALISTS REVEALED

Following the results of first-ever MTV audience online voting in all-new categories, Justin Timberlake prevails with four nominations for the MTV Europe Music Awards Munich 2007 on the 1 November - sponsored by Sony Ericsson and edc by Esprit.

The show’s impressive line-up of artists builds as global stars Avril Lavigne and My Chemical Romance join Mika and the Foo Fighters as they take to the stage to show fans at the OlympiaHalle how to rock! Hosted by hip-hop’s finest Snoop Dogg, the MTV EMAs Munich 2007 are shaping up to be the biggest event on Europe’s music calendar.

MTV also unveiled the 18 semi-finalists who will go head to head in a European wide competition to pick up the coveted New Sounds of Europe Award created in partnership with Sony Ericsson. The new award celebrates emerging artists from across Europe. The semi-finalists will be narrowed down to three acts that will be flown to Munich show week. On show day, online and live sms voting will commence, closing during the event, when the act with the most votes wins the award and performs during the show. To vote, please visit www.mtvema.com or www.sonyericsson.com/mtvema.

Nominated for Solo Artist, Most Addictive Track and Album of The Year, Avril Lavigne takes to the stage for the first time at the EMAs in Munich. With a career that has rocketed from the start – Avril’s debut album Let Go stormed the charts in 2002 selling over 18 million copies worldwide. Her subsequent two albums received enormous success with Under My Skin in 2004 and her current release The Best Damn Thing topping the Billboard 200. With an unprecedented 11 top ten hits and five #1 hits including her 2007 single ‘Girlfriend’, Avril is sure to have audiences on their feet when she performs at the OlympiaHalle.

Avril Lavigne’s next single ‘Hot’ taken from her current album The Best Damn Thing will be released in November.

"I am excited to be performing at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Munich this year. It's always such a great show and I’m really looking forward to it" – Avril Lavigne

Rocking their way to Munich will be My Chemical Romance who have had a meteoric rise to fame. Their 2004 album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge was a major commercial success selling over two million copies and their follow up album The Black Parade in 2006 escalated them to international stardom with the hit ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’. Nominated for the Rock Out Award, Band of 2007 and Inter Act Award, My Chemical Romance’s performance at the MTV EMAs will be a must-see on the night.

Leading the way in the nominations - voted for by audiences, is Justin Timberlake who is up for four EMA trophies. Having hosted last year’s awards, Justin dominates again as he goes up for the Video Star Award for ‘What Goes Around’, Headliner Award - following a hugely successful world tour, Ultimate Urban Act and Solo Artist of 2007.

Amy Winehouse, Avril Lavigne, Beyoncé, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna all have three nominations each. It’s the battle of the females as Nelly Furtado, Avril Lavigne, and Rihanna join Justin Timberlake in the fight for the coveted best Solo Artist of 2007, while the guys in Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy wrestle it out for the Rock Out Award.

Having just triumphed to the top of the charts with his album Graduation, Kanye West puts his gloves back on and returns to the ring for a second round with Justice. Nominated for the Video Star Award with ‘Stronger’, Kanye will go up against Justice - who is also nominated for his track ‘D.A.N.C.E’, for the second time at the MTV EMAs. Following last year’s defeat, will Kanye be able to even out the score and take the Video Star trophy?

Audiences can now log onto the MTV EMA website www.mtvema.com and decide who they would like see win each category live on 1 November 2007.

‘This year MTV audiences have been given complete control of the awards for the first time in EMA history. Their involvement is guaranteed to make the awards the most exciting yet, and we now have an interesting and diverse slate of nominees representing Europe’s most popular local and global artists. We’re looking forward to presenting a compelling and broad line-up of performers from all major music genres, not to mention an enviable list of big name presenters at this year’s event to make Munich the best show yet’. – Jamie Caring, Senior Vice President, Talent & Music, MTV Networks International.
